If only choosing someone, or indeed something, were still that easy.

I think sometimes we all want to feel like we are not insignificant; like what we do can have far-reaching, earth-shattering consequences. That we can affect change for good. The recent emergence of KONY2012, the movement initiated by the Invisible Children proves how, as a global conscience, we all desire good to triumph over evil. Which is great. A mass joining of forces to help put a stop to atrocities and bring those responsible to justice. What could be a more positive, life-affirming message? That the world can unite; that people can still do wonderful, powerful things in the cause of good?

But, while the world has been made to sit up and take note of one awful reality, many more are still desperately ignored. There are untold horrors taking place in this world. In this world which is home to all of us. And while occasionally, as is the case with this particular story, we pay attention, we even do our bit to help, most of the time we sit back, blissfully ignorant to the suffering which goes on every day.

And while I am, of course, happy that the world is uniting against this one named evil, I can’t help but think that it is driven from wanting to reassure ourselves that we are not selfish, and that we do care, and we do help.

But while we are reassuring ourselves, and while we are fighting for justice here, it is only one small piece of the puzzle. We need to open our eyes for ourselves, not only when someone does it for us, and fight for our home, our world, for everyone, everyday.

This world could be so much more. There could be peace. There could be an end to the extreme poverty. There could be a good and happy life for everyone. If we tried.

look through the kaleidoscope of life
and see all the brilliant colours.

I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and all the lives I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in life. And I am horribly limited.
